Frequently Asked

Network Infrastructure — Questions We Hear Most

Straight answers to the questions prospective clients ask before signing on. Don't see yours? Ask us directly — we'll put it in writing.

What does a typical small-business network project include?
Switch refresh, Wi-Fi access points, firewall, and often cabling cleanup. For multi-location: VPN or SD-WAN. Always includes documentation, network segmentation, and guest Wi-Fi isolation.
How do you design Wi-Fi for an office?
Site survey first — walk the space, measure coverage with a spectrum analyzer, identify interference. Then heat map, AP placement, channel planning, and capacity sizing for device count. Not just "stick an AP in the middle and hope."
What firewalls do you deploy?
UniFi/Ubiquiti for budget-conscious SMB, Meraki for multi-location management, Fortinet for performance and security features. Brand depends on throughput needs, compliance requirements, and management preferences.
Can you set up guest Wi-Fi safely?
Yes — isolated VLAN, captive portal with acceptable-use terms, bandwidth limits, scheduled availability. Guest traffic never sees your business network, and you control what sites are reachable.
How do you handle VPNs for remote workers?
SSL VPN (always-on or on-demand) for remote users, or ZTNA (zero-trust network access) for stricter control. Integrated with your identity provider for single sign-on plus MFA.
Do you support multiple office locations?
Yes — site-to-site VPN for smaller deployments, SD-WAN for active-active multi-location with performance optimization. Centralized management, single pane of glass for monitoring.
How do you troubleshoot slow network performance?
Structured diagnostics: packet capture, interface utilization, QoS review, DNS and latency measurement. Most "slow network" complaints trace to overloaded uplinks, misconfigured QoS, or DNS issues.
What is network segmentation and why does it matter?
Isolating devices into separate VLANs (workstations, servers, printers, IoT, guests) with firewall rules between. Prevents a compromised printer or camera from spreading malware to your servers. Now required by most cyber insurance.
Do you document the network?
Yes — network diagrams, IP schemes, VLAN maps, firewall rules, switch configs, and credentials stored in our documentation system. You get access. No more "only one person knew how it was wired."
Do you provide 24/7 network monitoring?
Yes for Managed IT clients — monitoring covers circuit health, switch/firewall status, Wi-Fi controller, and key network paths. Alerts trigger tickets before you notice a problem.
