Frequently Asked

Structured Cabling — Questions We Hear Most

Straight answers to the questions prospective clients ask before signing on. Don't see yours? Ask us directly — we'll put it in writing.

What types of cabling do you install?
Cat6 and Cat6A for most business networks, fiber (OM3, OM4, or single-mode) for long runs or high-bandwidth needs. Coax where needed for legacy video. Low-voltage for access control and cameras.
Can you retrofit cabling in an existing building?
Yes — we run cable above drop ceilings, through walls, down from raised access floors, or in surface raceway where ceilings aren't accessible. Conduit work coordinated with electricians where code requires.
Do you install racks and patch panels?
Yes — full rack builds including installation, cable management, patch panels, PDUs, and labeling. We leave the rack clean enough that the next tech can read it without crawling through a rat's nest.
Do you certify the cable runs?
Yes — with a Fluke or comparable certifier. Every run tested for frequency response, NEXT, return loss, and length. Certification reports provided in PDF for warranty and compliance records.
What's the typical lead time for a cabling project?
1-3 weeks from approval depending on site access, material availability, and scheduling. Rush work possible when urgent. Most small-to-mid-sized offices finish in a week on-site.
Can you work after-hours or weekends?
Yes — and we prefer it for disruptive work. After-hours, early-morning, and weekend installs are standard to avoid impacting operations, at a modest premium over straight-time labor.
Do you handle low-voltage permitting and inspections?
Yes where required. We pull permits, schedule inspections, and coordinate with local code officials. Pennsylvania low-voltage requirements vary by municipality — we handle the paperwork.
What does a typical cable drop cost?
Varies widely by distance, ceiling accessibility, and material (Cat6 vs. fiber). Free site assessment with itemized quote is standard. Typical Cat6 drop in an accessible drop-ceiling space: $150-$300 per drop.
Do you work with general contractors during new buildouts?
Yes — we coordinate cable, conduit, and rough-in with the GC so cabling goes in before walls close and ceilings are hung. Avoids costly retrofits and keeps the build on schedule.
Can you install Wi-Fi access points and cameras at the same time?
Yes — and it's cheaper. Running PoE cable for APs and IP cameras during a cabling project means one site visit, one permit cycle, one set of access coordination.
