Frequently Asked

Server & Workstation Upgrades — Questions We Hear Most

Straight answers to the questions prospective clients ask before signing on. Don't see yours? Ask us directly — we'll put it in writing.

What hardware brands do you deploy?
Dell, HP, and Lenovo for Windows; Apple for Mac environments. Business-grade lines only (Dell Latitude/OptiPlex/PowerEdge, HP EliteBook/ProDesk/ProLiant, Lenovo ThinkPad/ThinkCentre/ThinkSystem). No consumer-grade for production use.
Do you handle hardware procurement?
Yes — we source, receive, image, and deploy. Our vendor relationships usually get better pricing than retail, and we handle warranty registration and asset tagging as part of delivery.
How long does workstation deployment take per machine?
Typically 1-2 hours hands-on per machine with standard imaging — OS, domain join, applications, security stack, printer mapping, profile migration. Multiple machines in parallel via imaging bench.
Do you migrate user data from the old machine?
Yes — files, browser profiles, email settings, saved passwords (via password manager), application preferences, and mapped drives. Users sit down at the new machine and find their stuff where they left it.
What happens to the old hardware?
Certified data destruction (DoD wipe or physical destruction for drives), then R2-certified recycling or resale where hardware has value. You get a certificate of destruction for every device.
Do you offer Hardware-as-a-Service (HaaS)?
Yes — monthly lease covering hardware, warranty, and refresh. Spreads cost evenly, keeps equipment current, no capital outlay. Particularly useful for cash-conscious or rapidly growing businesses.
How do you decide between upgrading vs. replacing?
Age, warranty status, performance bottleneck, and OS support. A 4-year-old workstation with a slow HDD often gets an SSD and RAM upgrade for $200 vs. $1,200 replacement. Post-warranty servers generally get replaced.
What's a typical refresh cycle?
Workstations: 4-5 years. Laptops: 3-4 years (battery wear). Servers: 5-7 years. We plan replacements annually during IT budget review so nothing surprises anyone.
Do you handle warranty claims with manufacturers?
Yes — we log tickets with Dell, HP, Lenovo, or Apple, manage the replacement process, and install the replacement parts. You never sit on hold explaining serial numbers to a vendor support rep.
Can you compare Windows and Mac options for specific roles?
Yes — total cost of ownership comparisons including hardware, licensing, management overhead, software compatibility, and typical lifespan. Often Mac wins for creative/exec roles, Windows wins for line-of-business apps.
